Csilla TETŐZI – The hand that tears me apart (oil, canvas, 50X70 cm)

Csilla Tetőzi – The hand that tears me apart

I present my oil painting on black canvas, which I have been working on since the beginning under the artist name ARM.

Classical musical instruments, the historicizing perspective, the animal nature of man and vice versa – have always occupied me. Also, our cat named Orion has been with us for more than a decade and his personality has mainly inspired me in many of his works. So I primarily depicted the relationship between animal and man in the picture with a few twists, but in one body. In addition to the fact that he lingers playfully, because while his paw zigzags on the strings, his gaze is fixed on a – only hinted at – owl figure. His surrealism is also given by the fact that he has been given slightly heavenly clothing and wings, which in turn also strengthens the classical features at the same time. In the ethereal space, the instrument seems huge in the company of the stars.

The title of the painting is the personification of absurdity itself, as it is actually the instrument that is speaking: “The hand that will ‘tear me apart’, but I will still speak.”

At once a subtly feminine, classical basic idea and an avant-garde expression of the wear and tear and finiteness of antique objects/our heritage. I have set a parallel with naturalness. The critical tone of the generation gap is also voiced through this.
